Adolescent Resilience andEmpowerment Programme

Strengthening resilience, wellbeing, and agency for adolescent girls to thrive

AREP strengthens adolescents' resilience, wellbeing, and agency through integrated social and emotional learning (SEL), SRHR education, and gender-responsive learning environments. We generate evidence and strengthen systems to scale what works, enabling young people, especially girls, to thrive and make informed life decisions. AREP is delivered through two programmes: RSEL and REASEL.

Resilience and Social and Emotional Learning (RSEL)

RSEL strengthens resilience, mental wellbeing, and social and emotional learning among young adolescent girls aged 10-14, supporting informed SRHR decision-making and positive life outcomes.

The programme is implemented with technical support from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Empowered Adolescents through Social and Emotional Learning (REASEL)

REASEL strengthens adolescent girls' agency, mental wellbeing, leadership, and social and emotional skills, enabling them to make informed SRHR decisions, stay in school, and transition successfully into adulthood.

Foundational and InclusiveLearning Programme

Strengthening foundational learning for resilience, agency, and lifelong learning

FILP strengthens foundational literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional learning through evidence-informed, play-based, and inclusive approaches, building strong foundations for children, especially girls, to learn, thrive, and progress. Through the Reach and Enrol Programme (REP), we also support out-of-school children to access and transition into primary education. FILP is delivered through two sub-programmes: SELL-Play and REP.

Social and Emotional Learning and Literacy through Play (SELL-Play)

SELL-Play integrates early literacy and social-emotional learning through play-based approaches, supporting children to develop foundational literacy and social-emotional skills essential for lifelong learning.

Play-based learning enables children to actively engage, build confidence, and strengthen foundational skills. Delivered through a teacher-led approach and anchored within government systems, SELL-Play supports sustainable improvements in early learning at scale.

Reach and Enrol Programme (REP)

REP expands access to education by identifying, supporting, and transitioning out-of-school children, especially girls, into primary education.

Working with communities and schools, REP addresses barriers to enrolment and retention, strengthening pathways for children to enter, re-enter, and remain in school as part of a sustained learning system.

Programme Direction

Our programmes work together to strengthen foundational learning in childhood and advance resilience, wellbeing, and agency in adolescence, supporting enrolment, retention, and re-entry while generating evidence and strengthening systems to deliver lasting impact at scale.
