RSEL

Resilience and Social Emotional Learning (RSEL)

Strengthening resilience, mental wellbeing, and informed SRHR decision-making among young adolescents (10–14 years)

RSEL integrates social and emotional learning with SRHR education to support young adolescents—especially girls—to build resilience, develop self-awareness and agency, and make informed decisions about their health and relationships.

The first phase (2026–2028) focuses on co-adaptation, contextualisation, and validation of programme materials and measurement tools, laying the foundation for implementation and scale. Measurable impact results will be assessed at the end of the pilot phase in 2028.

REASEL

Resilient and Empowered Adolescent Girls Through Social and Emotional Learning

Strengthening adolescent girls’ agency, wellbeing, leadership, and informed decision-making

REASEL supports adolescent girls (14–19) to build agency, resilience, and leadership through integrated social and emotional learning (SEL) and SRHR education. The programme strengthens girls’ confidence, decision-making, and ability to navigate school, relationships, and future pathways.

Girls are better able to manage emotions, make informed decisions about their health and relationships, and stay engaged in school. Schools report more positive learning environments, with improved behaviour and participation among students.

SELL-PLAY

Social and Emotional Learning and Literacy Through Play

Strengthening foundational learning through play-based and integrated approaches

SELL-PLAY integrates early literacy and social-emotional learning (SEL) through play-based methods—supporting children to develop foundational literacy and social-emotional skills essential for lifelong learning

Play-based learning enables active engagement, confidence-building, and deeper learning. Delivered through a teacher-led approach and anchored within government systems, SELL-PLAY supports sustainable improvements in foundational learning at scale.

In April 2025, JMERC trained 44 educators—including teachers, school leaders, and district education staff—strengthening system capacity to deliver integrated literacy and SEL for younger learners.

SELL-PLAY is currently being piloted in Luuka District, working with schools and local education systems to strengthen integrated delivery of literacy and SEL.
