Resilient and Empowered Adolescents through Social and Emotional Learning (REASEL)

Empowering Youth, Building Resilience, and Unlocking Potential Through Social and Emotional Learning

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the foundation for all learning, achievement, and human flourishing. When youth become self-aware, understand and regulate their emotions, collaborate effectively with others, and develop the resilience and determination to face their challenges, they are better equipped to achieve personal and academic success. However, SEL has not yet received the attention it deserves in many educational settings.

We have developed the 'Building Resilient Minds Toolkit' to guide the implementation of the Resilient and Empowered Adolescents through Social and Emotional Learning (REASEL) program. Through this program, we empower youth to not only excel academically but also build resilience, face life’s situations, including the world of work and contributing to greater gender equality.

Our goal is to cultivate a generation of resilient, self-aware youth who are life-long learners, equipped with critical thinking, problem-solving, and emotional regulation skills.

Sexual and Reproductive Health

Building a Foundation for Informed Choices, Wellbeing, and Health for Adolescents

Our Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) program empowers adolescents by providing them with accurate, accessible information about their bodies, relationships, and rights. We focus on creating safe spaces where young people can openly discuss and make informed decisions about their sexual health, fostering healthier communities for the future.

Guided by two key research questions, our program seeks to understand: 1) How does poor mental health impact SRHR decision-making among young adolescents? and 2) Can an SEL-based intervention improve mental health resilience and SRHR outcomes?

These questions are central to exploring how mental health influences adolescents' sexual and reproductive health choices and how interventions can lead to better outcomes.

Holistic Youth Employability and Entrepreneurship (HOYEE)

Empowering Youth for Sustainable Employability and Entrepreneurship

The HOYEE program equips youth with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to thrive in today’s competitive job market and entrepreneurial landscape. By offering training in employability, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy, we prepare young people to create sustainable careers and businesses, empowering them to contribute to their communities and the economy.

Through hands-on training, mentorship, and access to resources, HOYEE supports youth in developing critical life skills, from problem-solving and communication to financial management and business development.

The program fosters both employment readiness and entrepreneurial ambition, helping youth to achieve long-term career success and become proactive change-makers in their communities.

Social and Emotional Learning and Literacy Through Play (SELL-PLAY)

Empowering Children to Develop Social and Emotional Learning and Literacy Through Play

Play is vital for children’s growth, supporting cognitive, social, emotional, and academic development. Through play, children learn to manage emotions, build resilience, and collaborate, which are essential for academic success. It provides a safe space for emotional expression and problem-solving, laying the foundation for both personal and academic growth.

Our SELL-Play program uses play to integrate social and emotional learning into literacy, promoting holistic development in rural primary schools. The "Play, Learn, and Grow Toolkit" guides this initiative, providing teachers with structured activities to nurture SEL and academic skills through play.

The program is guided by three exploratory research questions: 1. How can play-based learning enhance social and emotional skills? 2. How does integrating SEL into literacy impact literacy development? 3. What are the long-term effects of this approach on resilience and academic growth?

Gender Transformative Education Initiative (GTEI)

Empowering Girls and Boys to Challenge Gender Norms for an Equitable Society

The Gender Transformative Education Initiative aims to challenge traditional gender norms in schools, empowering both girls and boys to embrace gender equality. By integrating gender-responsive pedagogy into classrooms, we ensure that educational practices align with policies promoting gender equity, creating inclusive environments where all children can thrive.

Through targeted training and policy advocacy, the Gender Transformative Education Initiative works to reshape educational systems, ensuring that gender equality is prioritized both in practice and policy.

By empowering educators and engaging communities, we promote sustainable change that advances gender equity in education and fosters equal opportunities for all learners.
