In a classroom of mixed sexes, often times the study material needs to be adjusted and contextualised to meet the needs of both males and females. This is to help limit on the bias and discrimination for a given side. Professionally we become equal with no attachment to gender but instead put our focus on delivery on a job.
The learners are equally in class to aquire knowledge that will enable them persue their different dream professions regardless of their sex and so having a leveled ground for learning becomes a major boost to their esteem and encourages them to achieve their full potentials.
There are many ways to achieve this in a classroom as a teacher and this particular article is highlighting a Gender Responsive Lesson plan to be deployed by the teacher.
A Gender Responsive Lesson Plan is that which puts into consideration the needs of both males and females to help them learn, actively participate and compete equally without favouritsm of one side.
It calls upon the teacher/instructor to be gender sensitive and gender aware to accommodate the emotions and sex/gender differences of all the learners in that particular class.
For a learner to effectively gain from a lesson, they need comfort and a favourable environment that allows them to freely open up and interact with their colleagues and teachers. Similarly, in the event of them working in groups, the teacher should mix them according to capabilities so that they can lift up each other and putting into consideration the different sexes which enables them understand that we live in a diverse community so we need to work together and in harmony for a smooth holistic growth.
Often times when a teacher fails to meet this quality, the learners will have differences amongst themselves. Many will be maginalised simlpy because of failure to meet the social standards of the rest and worst of all be demoralised to persue certain careers attaching them to a given sex.
