The choices we make in our formative years have a lasting impact on our future. Unfortunately, many young people today prioritise short-term comfort over long-term success, leading to a challenging adulthood. Procrastination, a pervasive issue among learners, stems from a lack of motivation, often fueled by habits, peer pressure, low self-esteem, fear of failure, and poor time management.
In Uganda, where 50.5% of the population is under 17, it’s crucial for stakeholders to guide and mentor young minds. However, many learners fall victim to uninformed decisions, hindering their progress. Common obstacles include:
– Peer pressure and the desire to please others
– Fear of failure and perfectionism
– Age and time mismanagement
– Lack of focus and proper planning
– Last-minute completion of tasks
– Poor time management
– Procrastination during free lessons
– Inadequate preparation for exams
At JM Education and Research Centre, we’ve empowered over 2,000 learners with 21st-century skills, focusing on Social & Emotional Learning and Sexual & Reproductive Health. Our training equips participants with essential values and skills like Self-Awareness, Time Management, and Decision Making.
Overcoming procrastination requires self-drive and a willingness to change. By acknowledging these challenges and taking proactive steps, we can empower young people to make informed decisions, achieve their goals, and thrive in life.
