In line with our mission to ensure that all children learn, achieve, and thrive, we recently launched a teacher training program for the Social and Emotional Learning with Literacy through Play (SELL-PLAY) methodology. The training targeted Literacy and English language teachers in Primary One (P.1) to Primary Four (P.4) from seven pilot schools in Nawansega Coordinating Centre, Bukoova Sub-county, Luuka District.
The training that was held from the 12th to the 13th of April, 2025, was attended by 44 teachers despite the challenges posed by rain. Seven schools participated namely; Nawansega Primary School, Nabyoto Primary School, Bukhana Primary School, Bukyangwa Primary School, Ikumbya Primary School, Ntayigirwa Primary School and Wandago Primary School with good attendance by the District Education Department members, led by the District Inspector of Schools (DIS).
Despite the rain, we were pleased to see a high turnout of trainees, with every school represented well and all participants actively engaged in the training. The training achieved several significant accomplishments such as the successful coverage of two modules of the Toolkit Framework.
We were honoured by the visit of Dr. Sara Ruto from Echidna Giving, who commended the creativity exhibited in the development of the program and encouraged teachers to be creative and embrace the play-based approach.
The SELL-PLAY Teacher Training activity was a success, thanks to teamwork. We look forward to continued collaboration and progress in transforming early education in Luuka District.
